In Loving Memory of Alexandra Kiss

Alexandra Kiss was a gifted artist and architect, and a loving mother, wife, and friend.

Born in Timisoara, Romania, she relocated to Toronto as a teenager, along with her family. She excelled academically and artistically at A.Y. Jackson Secondary School and went on to study architecture at The University of Waterloo, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and the Yale School of Architecture. After more than a decade of working in architecture, she turned her focus more to drawing and art in 2018. Her drawing practice was informed by her architectural education: cognizant of space and time, with an emphasis on precision, and diagramming information ascertained through research, observation, and analysis.

For Alexandra, the most transformative role of her life began with the birth of her daughter, Sophie, in 2017. Balancing motherhood with her artistic practice, she embraced the joys and challenges of creating while raising a child, often turning Sophie’s growth and discoveries into inspiration for her work. She found joy in art, books, cycling, and hiking, and she treasured every moment with her family.

Alexandra Kiss passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2025, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Amir Shahrokhi, their daughter Sophie, her father Eugen, and extended family. She is predeceased by her mother, Tatiana (Mona).

Alex is remembered as deeply thoughtful, endlessly creative, and profoundly kind. Her legacy lives on in the art she created, the buildings she shaped, and most of all, in the love she shared with friends and family.
